Over 200 Japanese business leaders and policymakers to explore investment, technology partnerships and joint projects across key sectors as UP pushes towards its $1 trillion economy goal.

The 'UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026' to be organised from August 18-23 aims to attract Japanese investors in semiconductors, digital infrastructure and data centres, while taking Uttar Pradesh closer to its target of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
More than 200 Japanese industrialists, CEOs, business representatives and policymakers will participate in the investment meet to be held across New Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The high-level delegation will be led by Kotaro Nagasaki, Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture.
Through the five-day programme, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to convert business interest from Japanese companies into concrete investments, technology transfer, joint projects and large-scale employment generation.
The delegation will explore opportunities in manufacturing, clean and green energy, semiconductors, digital infrastructure, skill development and tourism. The Japanese delegation will be welcomed in New Delhi on August 18 by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
A High-Level CEO Roundtable and inaugural session will be held on August 19 in New Delhi, with senior Union ministers including Ashwini Vaishnaw and Shivraj Singh Chouhan expected to participate. The main state-level investment conference will be held in Lucknow on August 21, featuring government-to-business and business-to-business matchmaking sessions.
A key feature of the programme will be the virtual ground-breaking ceremony of projects by Escorts Kubota and Minda Corporation.
Escorts Kubota has proposed a ₹2,025 crore project in Sector-10 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region to manufacture tractors, construction equipment and related products. The project is expected to create more than 3,800 jobs.
Minda Corporation has proposed two projects in YEIDA, involving a combined investment of ₹1,166 crore and around 6,440 jobs. The projects will manufacture ignition switch-cum-steering locks, mechatronic components, wiring harnesses and related connection systems. Together, the two companies' projects entail ₹3,191 crore of investment and could create more than 10,000 jobs.
The state government also plans to develop a 500-acre dedicated Japanese City in YEIDA for Japanese companies, suppliers and ancillary industries, with the aim of strengthening supply-chain integration and technology transfer.
The meet will focus on renewable energy, clean technology, green hydrogen, auto components, electronics and semiconductors, besides Global Capability Centres and data centres. Skill development and industry-academia collaboration will also feature, with an academic-industry dialogue planned at Galgotias University in Greater Noida.
Tourism opportunities, including the Buddhist Circuit covering Varanasi, Sarnath and Kushinagar, as well as tourism and smart civic infrastructure in Agra, will also be showcased to Japanese investors. (With inputs from PTI)
