Car manufacturers worldwide are increasingly turning to nimble tech startups to fast-track the development of specialized safety systems, digital driving tools, and next-generation vehicle features.

Hyderabad-based startup incubator T-Hub has partnered with Honda Digital Innovation India (HDII) to launch the Honda Innovation Challenge 1.0. The co-development initiative is designed to discover, validate, and scale startup-led technologies across intelligent mobility and connected vehicle experiences.
The alliance arrives at a critical juncture for the automotive industry. Car manufacturers worldwide are increasingly turning to nimble tech startups to fast-track the development of specialized safety systems, digital driving tools, and next-generation vehicle features.
The inaugural cohort of the challenge witnessed intense competition, drawing over 300 applications from both domestic and international markets. Following a rigorous screening process that evaluated startup sourcing, use case discoveries, and cohort potential, four startups were selected: Xane AI, Attento Technologies, AppTestify, and SenSight Technologies.
The four chosen entities will now enter an intense 12-week development sprint. To help convert their concepts into market-ready applications, the startups will receive up to ₹10 lakh each in co-development funding, which will be disbursed in structured tranches.
Beyond capital, the startups gain direct access to Honda’s engineering and business divisions, alongside specialized testing environments and operational insights necessary for rapid product deployment.
The initiative follows the recent establishment of HDII, a dedicated digital subsidiary set up by Honda to specifically cater to the evolving needs of the Indian market. The subsidiary's primary objective is to build a unified digital ecosystem that seamlessly integrates Honda’s automobiles, motorcycles, and digital services.
“When an Indian customer buys a Honda, when they visit our showroom, ride our vehicle, interact with our brand, do they feel that Honda truly understands them? That gap is why we created HDII,” said Toshiaki Tanaka, COO of HDII. “India is not the future. India is now. We are looking forward to co-developing and building with the best ideas in India, for India and for the world.”
Highlighting the caliber of domestic innovation, Kavikrut, CEO at T-Hub, said: “Founders in India are building specialised mobility solutions across safety, connected experiences, and intelligent mobility. This initiative has been designed to help startups work closely with one of the world’s leading automotive companies and accelerate solutions for real-world deployment.”
At the launch event, Kunal Behl, director at HDII and VP of marketing and sales at Honda Cars India Limited, officially handed over the co-development cheques to the selected founders, marking the commencement of the cohort.
