New facility boosts AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region capacity, backing India’s AI ambitions with custom chips, secure cloud services and expanded infrastructure investment

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has broken ground on a new data centre in Hyderabad, marking the continued expansion of its AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region as it scales cloud infrastructure to meet growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud services in India. The expansion is part of Amazon's previously announced plan to invest over $21 billion in cloud infrastructure in India between 2026 and 2030.
The new infrastructure will expand AWS' data centre capacity in Hyderabad and Mumbai, providing startups, enterprises and government organisations access to custom AI chips, hundreds of cloud and managed AI services, secure cloud technologies and developer tools.
"The foundation stone laying for the Amazon Web Services data centre in Bharat Future City will serve as a stepping stone for a wide range of investments and businesses to come forward and invest in Bharat Future City. We are building a world-class city in Bharat Future City with the best of infrastructure. I congratulate the AWS team on this development," said Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
By the end of 2025, Amazon had invested more than $1.3 billion in cloud infrastructure in the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region. The planned investment of over $21 billion from 2026 to 2030 is part of Amazon's previously announced $48 billion investment across its businesses in India.
"Since we launched AWS infrastructure in Hyderabad back in 2022, we have deepened our investment and commitment to build sustainable cloud data centre operations in the State of Telangana to help meet the growing demands of Digital India and the India AI Mission," said Anurag Khilnani, AWS Director of Data Centre Delivery. "The support of the State Government of Telangana has been essential to fast-tracking the build of India's digital backbone in Hyderabad. We look forward to continuing to invest in the State of Telangana into the local data centre supply chain, local workforce and the local community to serve India's growing digital and AI ambitions."
Alongside the infrastructure expansion, AWS said it continues to invest in workforce development. Through its Amazon Data Centre Skilling Program, now in its fourth year, the company has trained 250 students in Hyderabad in data centre operations and hired 110 of them into the AWS Data Centre Operations team. AWS also said it has trained more than 10 million individuals in India in cloud skills since 2017 through programmes including AWS Skill Builder, AWS Educate and AWS re/Start.
