Blackstone-backed AirTrunk acquires Lumina CloudInfra, marking India entry

AirTrunk, a Blackstone-backed, Australian hyperscale data centre company, announced the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, an India-focussed developer of large-scale data centres, marking its entry into the country. Lumina’s operations are across three Tier I markets in India—Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Details about the acquisition

The transaction includes an approximately 600 MW portfolio of planned capacity, representing up to $5 billion of future development potential. The platform will continue to be supported by long-term capital from Blackstone and CPPIB.

Post acquisition, AirTrunk will scale to more than over 3GW of operating and planned capacity, across 20 campuses in six operating regions—Australia, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India.

According to the release, India’s ambition to become a global AI powerhouse is backed by a major government drive to build sovereign AI capability as part of the IndiaAI Mission initiative. “The integrated AirTrunk and Lumina platform brings together global scale and local leadership, enabling the delivery of large‑scale, high‑density, AI‑ready campuses at the speed and scale needed to support customers across APAC,” the release read.
