Galaxy Unpacked 2025 will soon bring new devices and AI experiences
The public announcement of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2025 has confirmed that the event will take place on the 22nd of January. Unpacked will be held in-person in San Jose but will, of course, be streamed online for everyone. The event is the most significant annual one for Samsung Mobile and indeed an important one for the tech world in general, as Samsung sets trends at the beginning of the year. It is for certain that Samsung’s launch of its flagship series of smartphones is always keenly anticipated. In particular, the tech world has been abuzz with what innovations and changes the top-ended S25 Ultra will bring.
Samsung has clearly made the shift from being hardware-centric to focusing on AI experiences. The S25 series is meant to bring in ‘a big leap in Mobile AI experiences’ and the company promises premium Galaxy innovations that bring seamless convenience into every moment of its users’ lives. While the official announcement ends at that, there have been rumours and leaks aplenty, including about the hardware.
Design-wise, most of these centre around the S25 Ultra, although some features will be common across all the models. One seemingly minor detail is that the corners on the body of the phone will be slightly rounded, not sharp. It, however, makes a difference to the ergonomics. The S25 Ultra will be taller, narrower and overall easier to hold. One common design change is that the bezels will be even slimmer than the S24 Ultra. The S Pen (stylus) on this phone has also been given some rounded aspect and repositioned slightly on the device. Apart from this, there will be new colours inlaying an Icy Blue and Titanium Blue.
The most significant change to the internals will be in the form of the processor, moving on to Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite, which enables better performance and improved efficiency. It is supposed to boost AI performance by 45% compared to the previous gen. The chip improves camera performance, gaming, and AI processes.
The S25 Ultra’s display is expected to be really hi-res (2K) with a high density of pixels and peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. The refresh rate is expected to be 240Hz. The screen has a Gorilla Glass Victus 3 anti-reflective coating, which counters glare and makes it more comfortable to look at.
The S25 Ultra’s camera system includes a primary camera, which is expected to remain a 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor, the same sensor used in the S24 Ultra. The ultra-wide camera is expected to be upgraded to a 50MP sensor. The new sensor is expected to be an ISOCELL S5KJN3, also known as the GN3, with a 1/1.57-inch imager and 1.0µm pre-binned pixels. This new sensor should allow for more detail in photographs and enable 8K recording. There is also the possibility of a brighter f/2.0 lens. The front facing camera will remain a 12MP. Samsung may add variable zoom capabilities to the camera system.
Artificial intelligence will be threaded through the phone’s functioning with Samsung’s interface, OneUI 7 running on Android 15. Google’s Gemini AI will be integrated into the system and perhaps even function from a locked screen. The idea will be to make AI more intuitive and accessible no matter what a user is doing.
The battery on the S25 Ultra will be a 5,000mAh and will support 30-minute charging.
