Renault India on Wednesday revealed that the new-generation Renault Duster Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) has completed over one million kilometres of testing across three continents as part of its development programme ahead of its formal unveiling later this month.

Testing conditions spanning –23 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees

According to the French carmaker, the testing programme was conducted in temperature conditions ranging from –23 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees Celsius and covered a mix of controlled facilities and public roads. The trials were aimed at validating the vehicle’s performance, durability, and suitability for varied operating conditions, according to the carmaker.

As part of the process, the upcoming SUV underwent long-term endurance testing across research and development tracks, proving grounds and real-world road circuits globally. Renault said the cumulative distance covered during these trials crossed one million kilometres.

According to Renault India, the SUV was also tested in high-altitude terrains in India, including a test run in the Leh-Ladakh region. The vehicle reached Khardung La, located at an elevation of 18,379 feet, to assess performance in low-oxygen environments and steep terrain, claimed the company.

Commenting on the milestone, Renault Group India CEO Stephane Deblaise said the testing programme was aimed at preparing the new Duster for real-world usage conditions, particularly in India.

India-specific testing programmes

Notably, India-specific testing formed a part of the programme, with the vehicle driven across multiple cities and road conditions. The company said the new Duster was evaluated for its ability to handle rough roads, speed breakers, and congested urban traffic. Testing was also conducted at government-approved facilities such as NATRAX, ARAI, GARC, and ICAT.

In addition, Renault said vehicle tuning exercises were undertaken in multiple international markets, including Brazil, Romania, France, China and the Czech Republic, to finalise driving dynamics across varied road and usage patterns.

Meanwhile, Renault India stated that the new Duster will be officially unveiled on January 26, 2026.
