Flipkart is gearing up for a transformative festive season after the rollout of GST 2.0 reforms, marking a substantial shift in India’s tax structure and consumer market dynamics. The reforms cut the number of GST slabs to two - 5% and 18% - and it has slashed rates for high-value categories such as electronics and large appliances, setting the stage for increased consumer spending as the festive season begins.

“At Flipkart, we see the GST 2.0 reforms as a game-changer that will drive consumption and unlock significant value for customers this festive season. Especially in high-value categories like electronics and large appliances, shoppers have been holding back purchases in anticipation of this shift. Early trends already reflect a surge in interest, now that the reforms are here,” said Pratik Shetty, vice president of Growth & Marketing at Flipkart.

The reforms haven't just impacted buyers. Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at Flipkart, emphasised the wide-reaching effects on sellers and the broader retail ecosystem, saying, “We welcome the Government of India’s landmark NextGen GST reforms, which reflect the government’s vision of ease of living and ease of doing business. By lowering input costs for farmers, simplifying compliance for MSMEs, and enabling small sellers to seamlessly participate in e-commerce across states, these reforms will further strengthen India’s growth engine.”

To ensure sellers benefit from the new structure, Flipkart has overhauled its seller dashboard to include automatic backend updates of GST slabs, while also organising training sessions and webinars to address any questions. Kumar underlined that these timely reforms “will widen market access, drive consumption, help customers save money, and accelerate our collective journey towards a robust economic growth and Viksit Bharat.”
