Switzerland-headquartered global engineering and automation major ABB plans to invest about $75 million in India in 2026 to expand manufacturing capacity and research capabilities, as demand rises from sectors such as renewable energy, rail transport, and data centres.
The investment will be spread across the company’s facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nashik and Vadodara and will support growth in its electrification, motion and automation businesses. The expansion is also expected to create more than 300 skilled jobs in engineering, operations and research.
The company said the move is aimed at strengthening its “local-for-local” strategy, under which a majority of the products sold in India are manufactured within the country.
A portion of the investment will go towards expanding ABB’s manufacturing footprint in Bengaluru. At its Nelamangala campus, the company plans to scale up production of converters and power protection equipment while increasing manufacturing capacity for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems used in critical infrastructure such as data centres and transport networks.
At the Peenya facility in Bengaluru, ABB will expand production of low-voltage drives and specialised motors used in industries such as metals, cement and oil and gas.
The company is also developing new research and engineering infrastructure in Hyderabad. A multi-phase project there includes advanced laboratory and testing facilities, with a high-power testing laboratory planned in the next phase.
Meanwhile, ABB will expand its Nashik plant to increase production of indoor and outdoor circuit breakers and vacuum interrupters. The facility will also work on localising higher-voltage switchgear technologies, including alternatives to SF6 gas used in electrical equipment.
In Vadodara, the company plans to scale up manufacturing of synchronous generators and induction motors to cater to demand from core industrial sectors.
The latest investment builds on ABB’s previous spending in the country. The company invested more than $35 million in India in 2025 and has deployed over $230 million in the country over the past decade to strengthen local manufacturing and engineering capabilities.
India has become one of ABB’s faster-growing markets, supported by rising infrastructure spending, electrification of transport and industrial automation demand.
ABB’s India operations generated revenue of more than $1.5 billion in 2025 and currently employ over 10,000 people across manufacturing plants, distribution centres and R&D facilities.
