Jio Payments Bank Ltd (JPBL), a subsidiary of Jio Financial Services Ltd, has operationalised Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)-based Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling at the Manoharpura Fee Plaza on National Highway-48 in Rajasthan.
According to the official announcement on Thursday, the Manoharpura plaza is part of the government's pilot MLFF project awarded by Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL) to JPBL in October 2025. The project covers two toll plazas, Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura, on the busy Gurugram-Jaipur stretch of NH-48. The newly operational plaza is expected to process around 8.8 million vehicles annually.
JPBL is managing a connected tolling corridor spanning 100 km between Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura and another 34 km from Manoharpura to Daulatpur. The MLFF system combines ANPR and FASTag-based RFID technology to automatically identify vehicles and collect tolls without requiring them to stop or slow down, eliminating physical toll barriers.
The company said the barrierless tolling system is expected to reduce travel time, fuel consumption and congestion while improving freight movement and fleet utilisation. These efficiency gains are expected to lower logistics costs and strengthen the competitiveness of India's transport network.
"The commencement of MLFF tolling operations at Manoharpura marks an important milestone in Jio Payments Bank's expanding role in India's mobility payments ecosystem,” said Vinod Easwaran, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of JPBL.
He added that barrierless tolling would improve commuter convenience, reduce transportation costs and enhance national productivity.
For the implementation of the project, JPBL partnered with Jio Platforms Ltd, which serves as the central project manager, while Tecsidel India Pvt Ltd deployed the core software architecture and tolling instrumentation. Jio Platforms said the MLFF rollout aligns with the government's vision of creating a digitally connected transportation ecosystem and will support the future transition to Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based pay-per-use road charging.
The company said the successful deployment at Manoharpura positions it to support a wider rollout of barrierless tolling infrastructure and future GNSS-enabled road pricing initiatives across the country.
“India's transition towards MLFF tolling is not merely a technology upgrade—it is a strategic national transformation that aligns with the Government of India's vision of building a digitally connected, efficient, and globally competitive transportation ecosystem,” Debasish Debsikdar, Senior Vice President & Business Unit Head – Transportation, Traffic & Tolling, Jio Platforms Limited, said.
