The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has surpassed the highway construction target for 2024-25 and built 5,614 kilometres of national highways during the fiscal.

“Working relentlessly towards development of the national highway infrastructure in the country, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), during the Financial Year 2024-25, constructed 5,614 km of National Highways against the target of 5,150 km for the year,” the ministry of road transport and highways said in a release.

“In addition, the capital expenditure by NHAI in 2024-25 for development of national highway infrastructure reached an all-time high of over ₹2,50,000 crore (provisional) against a target expenditure of ₹2,40,000 crore,” said the ministry.

“This highest-ever capital expenditure in a financial year by NHAI and includes both Government budgetary support and NHAI’s own resources. The overall capital expenditure increased by around 21% as compared to ₹2,07,000 crore in previous 2023-24 and by around 45% as compared to ₹1,73,000 crore in 2022-23,” the ministry said.

“During FY25, NHAI leveraged three modes for monetization, that included Toll Operate Transfer (TOT), Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) and Toll Securitisation. During the Financial Year, NHAI monetized assets for a total of ₹28,724 Crore. This includes NHAI’s highest-ever single round InvIT receipt worth ₹17,738 crore,” said the ministry.

NHAI is committed to build world class National Highway infrastructure across the country that will contribute not only to the growth of the road sector but will also play a critical role in nation-building and advancing the growth of the Indian economy.

Way side amenities

Road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said the government has currently awarded 501 Wayside Amenities (WSAs) along National Highways/Expressways. “Out of these, 94 Wayside Amenities have been made operational. The development of more than 700 WSAs is likely to be completed by the Financial Year 2028-2029,” Gadkari said in a reply in Rajya Sabha. The wayside amenities have provision of facilities like fuel station, electric vehicle charging station, toilets, drinking water, parking, dhaba/restaurant/eateries, among others.
