Revenue Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey named new SEBI chairman
This is the second time Pandey has seen change of department within the ministry since December. 

Revenue Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey has been appointed as the next chairman of Securities and Exchange Board of India for a period of three years. Pandey will join the office on March 3, 2025.

"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Tuhin Kanta Pandey, IAS (OR:1987), Finance Secretary and Secretary, Department of Revenue to the post of Chaiman, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), initially for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier," said an order from the ministry of personnel a while ago.

Pandey will succeed Madhabi Puri Buch, who has been the Sebi chairperson since 2022. In appointing Pandey, government has gone back to appointing an IAS officer to the post. Buch a former ICICI Bank official was first person from private sector to hold the post.

This is the second time Pandey has seen change of department within the ministry since December.

Ahead of the budget in early January, the government appointed him as the revenue secretary from the post of secretary, department of investment and public asset management (Dipam). Interestingly, Pandey replaced Arunish Chawla, who had been appointed as the revenue secretary only a few days back in December end.

Chawla, meanwhile, was sent to DIPAM as secretary – the post vacated by Pandey.
