Chinese car manufacturer, MG Motor India on Thursday unveiled its maiden hydrogen fuel cell multi-purpose vehicle (MPV)—EUNIQ 7 on the second day of the Auto Expo 2023. The company also showcased its third-generation fuel cell technology, known as PROME P390.

"The world-leading hydrogen fuel cell system underlines MG's commitment to providing clean and efficient travel based on green, renewable power sources," the company says in a statement. 

The company launched its hydrogen fuel-cell system in 2001 as the Phoenix No 1 fuel cell vehicle project. PROME P390, which is integrated into EUNIQ 7, has a system power of 92 kW with a peak operating efficiency of 60%.

According to the company, PROME P390 can operate at a maximum of 95 degree Celsius and can cold start at -30 degree Celsius. The fuel-cell dimensions are - 790*598*820 (mm) with a high durability of over 10,000 hrs. in addition, the PROME P390 comes with an Integrated architecture without external humidification.

On Wednesday, the company launched the Next-Gen Hector at a starting price of ₹14.72 lakh (ex-showroom). The Next-Gen MG Hector is available in five variants -- Style, Smart, Smart Pro, Sharp Pro & Savvy Pro. The SUV comes in five, six, and seven-seater configurations. The new Hector comes with an argyle-inspired diamond mesh grille, a 35.56 cm (14-inch) HD portrait infotainment system, digital Bluetooth key with key-sharing function, traffic jam assist feature, auto turn indicators, and i-SMART technology with over 75 connected car features. 

The Next-Gen Hector also has other key safety features such as 6 airbags, a 360-degree HD camera, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Assist Control (HAC), all four-wheel disc brakes, a 3-point seat belt for all seats, electric parking brake (EPB), and front parking sensors.

"The mesmerising interiors of the new SUV are available in a dual-tone argil brown and black theme with a wooden finish. The flagship SUV is available in 5, 6, and 7-seater configurations, and offers intelligently designed seating options, and ample space. The 6-seater SUV seats come with a captain configuration while the 7-seater vehicle is offered with bench seats," the company said in a statement.
