In recent years there's been a significant demand for software businesses. There are currently 26.9 software developers worldwide, and that number is projected to grow by 22% by 2029. Unsurprisingly, investors are handing billions in funding to fund the next software startup. BookingKoala is a software company that was started by Filip Boksa and Vivek Prajapati in 2017. Although many companies take the traditional route of raising capital, Boksa and Prajapati are bootstrapping BookingKoala entirely.
The Journey
Entrepreneurship is a marathon and not a sprint. Many look at someone's success once they've achieved a certain level of if, but they often look at what happened before they reached it. Boksa and Prajapati worked hard for many years in their respective fields before founding BookingKoala. Boksa started King of Maids, a cleaning company, when he was 19 years old, while Prajapati began a development company early in his career. Then when Boksa needed a developer to build the software behind his cleaning company's growth, their paths crossed. While working together for many years, they've built a relationship and decided to start BookingKoala.
Starting BookingKoala
As their website describes, BookingKoala is the perfect platform to start a service business. Anyone can sign up for their software and compete with multi-million dollar brands in seconds. The idea for the software came when both founders discovered the massive demand for such software. Boksa searched every software before creating his own for King of Maids. However, nothing on the market was powerful enough to help him scale his cleaning company. Eventually, Boksa and Prajapati figured out that they built the perfect software to make growing a cleaning company as effective and efficient as possible. They figured there are a lot of entrepreneurs like Filip that are starting cleaning companies or businesses similar to such an industry. They decided to re-design the software so that others could access its powerful features and capabilities. In 2018, BookingKoala was open to the public.
BookingKoala Today
Boksa and Prajapati have had quite the journey since they launched BookingKoala in 2018. Four years later, thousands of users use the platform worldwide, and the business is worth millions of dollars. To this day, they own the entire company and are not interested in raising any outside capital.
What's Next?
Both founders love the company and are incredibly passionate about its user base and future. Their next goal is to reach a billion-dollar valuation and to do it without ever taking any outside capital. Boksa says they get bombarded daily with major investors trying to invest or buy the company but are not interested. He says the company is doing exceptionally well on its own, and the team wants to be an example to its user base that big things can be done without raising capital. Success takes hard work, patience, and the right plan, and raising money is just one way.
Final Advice
When asked why BookingKoala is succeeding, the founders both said they CARE, and they LISTEN. They've been there for their customers since day one and plan on being there until the end. Both Boksa and Prajapati say they focus on the customer and listen. Listening and caring have been the secret, and listening and caring is what they will continue to do.
