Gautam Singhania, chairman & managing director of Raymond Ltd, met with a speedboating accident in the Northeastern side of Maldives recently. Singhania, known for his passion for supercars and speedboats was holidaying in Maldives when this happened.
“I spoke to Gautam now and he is fine,” said one of his friends who didn’t want to be named. On enquiring the nature of the accident, he said, “I don’t know the details, but I know that he’s fine and is under medical care in Mumbai.”
Maldives is one of Singhania’s favourite holiday spots and he loves the eastern tip of the island in particular where not too many people frequent and is well known for its water sports. It is learnt that Singhania was holidaying with a few friends on this island when the speedboat overturned. Condition of others is not yet known.
“Shri. Gautam Singhania suffered minor injuries following an unfortunate accident. He is recovering under due care in Mumbai. We thank you for the wishes and pray for the well-being of the affected friends,” according to a short statement by Singhania’s spokesperson.
Separately, Indian rally driver Hari Singh is feared missing following the accident, according to preliminary reports, although there was no official confirmation of his status at the time of writing.
A widely circulated statement claimed that Singh was among those on board and had been untraceable for over 16 hours after the incident, raising fears of a fatal outcome. However, authorities have not confirmed this, and details remain unclear.
The condition of other passengers who were reportedly on the boat was also not immediately known.
There was no official word from Maldivian authorities on the incident or on any ongoing search and rescue operations.
The situation remains fluid, with further clarity expected as more information emerges from local authorities and those involved.
The development has drawn attention due to the presence of Singhania, a prominent industrialist, and Singh, a well-known figure in Indian motorsport.
