Budget 2023: MGNREGA demand up since Covid

Demand for work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (MGNREGs), which provides for livelihood security of households in rural areas, has grown dramatically since the Covid year 2020. A total of 7.2 crore households were provided employment support in FY22 against 5.2 crore in pre-Covid.
