With a gross collection of ₹11,833 crore, 2024 became the second-highest earning year in India’s box office history, just behind 2023’s record ₹12,226 crore. Hindi cinema faced a setback, with collections dropping from ₹5,380 crore in 2023 to ₹4,679 crore in 2024, reducing its box office share by 4 percentage points to 40%. In contrast, Malayalam cinema witnessed unprecedented growth, doubling its market share from 5% to 10% and crossing the ₹1,000 crore mark for the first time. However, overall footfalls dipped by 6% compared to 2023, reaching 88.3 crore (883 million).
