In her two years at the helm of Meta India, Sandhya Devanathan has played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s strategy in its largest user market. For Meta, India is a test bed for innovation. Many of Meta’s most significant product launches in recent years have debuted in India before going global. Instagram Reels, one of the company’s strongest engagement drivers worldwide, was first launched in India in 2020. Even Meta AI finds its highest usage here. Last year, when Meta introduced WhatsApp Flows, Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch in India before it expanded globally. Meta is doubling down on key investments—generative AI, metaverse, Threads, monetisation, platform integrity, and infrastructure capacity. India remains central to this vision. With deep experience in scaling up businesses and driving product innovation, Devanathan has been instrumental in aligning India’s growth with global priorities. Under her leadership, Meta continues to expand partnerships, ensuring India remains a vital part of its growth strategy. “A lot of the work we did with our ecosystem partners, developers, startups and businesses was around figuring out in what ways we could add value, and be accretive to their goals,” says Devanathan. Beyond business, Devanathan is a strong advocate of gender diversity and inclusion. She actively champions initiatives supporting women in leadership within Meta and the broader tech industry.
