Building a strong maritime economy, accelerating technology, and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and strengthening data-driven governance will be critical for Andhra Pradesh to achieve its Swarna Andhra@2047 vision, Prof. S. Mahendra Dev, Chairman of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC), said.
Speaking at a high-level workshop on "Economic Intelligence for Governance" organised by the Andhra Pradesh government in Tirupati on July 2-3, Dev outlined a roadmap for the state to align its development agenda with the Centre's Viksit Bharat@2047 vision.
The workshop brought together economists, policymakers, members of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, NITI Aayog, the Chief Economic Adviser, senior officials from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), state government officials and field-level functionaries to discuss ways to strengthen data-driven governance.
Highlighting Andhra Pradesh's competitive advantages, Dev said the state's long coastline offers immense potential to build a robust marine economy while its highly educated workforce can help drive the adoption of emerging technologies such as AI. He also said the importance of collecting high-quality data at the district and local levels to improve policymaking and governance. According to Dev, the Andhra Pradesh government currently monitors around 650 key performance indicators (KPIs), making capacity building across various administrative levels essential for estimating gross value added (GVA) and tracking economic progress effectively.
To translate the vision of Viksit Bharat and Swarna Andhra into actionable outcomes, the state has established constituency-level vision action plans. The monitoring framework involves not only government officials but also Members of the Legislative Assembly and Members of Parliament, who track the progress of KPIs at the constituency level.
The Swarna Andhra@2047 vision aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into a ₹308 lakh crore ($2.4 trillion) economy by 2047, with a targeted per capita income of ₹55 lakh and an annual economic growth rate exceeding 15%.
Dev said aligning the state's long-term development strategy with the national goal of Viksit Bharat@2047, while leveraging its strengths in maritime infrastructure, technology and AI, would be central to achieving these ambitious economic targets.
