Jio is set to launch its first Smart TV operating system, JioTele OS, aiming to offer a more Indianised television experience. This move positions Jio in direct competition with Google’s Android TV OS, while also challenging streaming devices like Amazon Fire TV Stick and Google Chromecast.

The company said the country has nearly 35 million connected TV households, but many consumers face challenges like limited customisation and restricted access to high-quality regional content.

The OS will feature AI-powered recommendations, seamless integration of global and regional content, support for leading apps, and regular updates, redefining home entertainment in India with accessible and seamless viewing.

JioTele OS will offer AI-driven recommendations and lag-free 4K performance, along with access to TV channels, cloud gaming, and OTT apps, all seamlessly controlled with a single remote. Regular software updates will keep the OS compatible with new apps, content formats, and evolving security and technology standards.

The announcement follows Jio's recent merger with Disney+ Hotstar and the launch of JioHotstar, which is expected to be a key OTT platform integrated into the OS.
