Samsung Electronics on Tuesday refreshed its smartwatch portfolio with the launch of the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9, introducing new health-tracking features, longer battery life and upgraded hardware as it looks to strengthen its position in the premium wearable market.
The new watches, unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z foldables at Galaxy Unpacked, place a greater emphasis on preventive healthcare. Samsung said the devices continuously monitor health data and use Galaxy AI to turn daily biometric information into personalised insights and timely alerts, helping users better understand their cardiovascular health, sleep, fitness and recovery.
"By continuously tracking health data from the wrist, these new watches act as a vigilant health companion, turning daily vital signs into proactive, actionable insights and providing timely alerts," Samsung said.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is aimed at outdoor enthusiasts and athletes, while the Galaxy Watch9 is positioned as the company's flagship smartwatch for everyday health monitoring. Both devices run on One UI 9 Watch and are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, replacing Samsung's in-house Exynos chipset.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 for endurance and outdoor adventures
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 features a redesigned titanium case with a thinner 10.7 mm profile and a brighter display that reaches up to 5,000 nits for improved outdoor visibility. Samsung has also increased battery capacity to 800mAh, claiming up to 100 hours of battery life in Power Saving mode and up to 48 hours in Exercise Power Saving mode.
Designed for rugged use, the smartwatch carries 10ATM water resistance, IP68 certification and MIL-STD-810H durability. It also includes dual-frequency GPS, a customisable Quick Button, improved route navigation with altitude guidance and multisport tracking for activities such as triathlons.
Samsung said the Ultra2 introduces hydration alerts, enhanced race tracking, personalised heart-rate zones and new workout metrics, while a diving application developed with Mares will be rolled out later this year.
Galaxy Watch9 for everyday health monitoring takes centre stage
The Galaxy Watch9 focuses on day-to-day wellness, combining a lighter design with a larger battery and improved efficiency through Qualcomm's Snapdragon Wear Elite processor. Samsung said the smartwatch has been designed for all-day wear while delivering more accurate health measurements and AI-powered insights.
Among the new health tools are Vitals, which tracks deviations in health metrics during sleep, Heart Health Score, Daily Cardio Load and a Fitness Index that provides a broader picture of physical wellbeing. The watch also introduces improved sleep tracking, stress monitoring and personalised wellness recommendations through Samsung Health.
New AI features across both watches
Samsung has expanded Galaxy AI across the wearable lineup with features designed to make health insights more actionable rather than simply displaying raw data.
The watches can analyse sleep patterns, cardiovascular activity and exercise performance to generate personalised recommendations. They also support Google Gemini, allowing users to perform tasks such as checking schedules, summarising notifications and interacting with apps through natural voice commands.
Other additions include Raise-to-Talk for hands-free Gemini access, improved heart-rate tracking, vascular health monitoring, Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) Index for metabolic health, and tighter integration with Galaxy smartphones, Galaxy Ring and Samsung Health. Samsung said the combined ecosystem provides a more comprehensive view of a user's overall wellbeing.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 will be available in a new Titanium Blue finish alongside Titanium Silver, Titanium Gray and Titanium White, while the Galaxy Watch9 will be offered in multiple sizes and finishes. Samsung has opened pre-orders in select markets, with shipments beginning next month. The company has yet to announce India pricing and availability.
