Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and semiconductor company Qualcomm have set up an Innovation Lab in Bengaluru, the IT services firm announced on Wednesday.
The lab will be focused on co-creating Edge AI and Software Defined Everything (SDx) solutions for enterprises.
SDx is an umbrella term that entails automation of IT infrastructure through software rather than rigid, hardware-centric methods.
“The TCS Innovation Lab in Bengaluru will serve as a space where advanced AI and connectivity meet real-world challenges. Together, we aim to develop solutions that are cost-effective, efficient, scalable, and tailored to the needs of enterprises looking to modernise and grow in a software-defined world,” said Savi Soin, Sr. Vice President & President, Qualcomm India.

2025 is shaping up to be the year of electric car sales. In a first, India’s electric vehicles (EV) industry crossed the sales milestone of 100,000 units in FY25, fuelled by a slew of launches by major players, including Tata Motors, M&M, Ashok Leyland, JSW MG Motor, Hyundai, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. The issue also looks at the challenges ahead for Tata Sons chairman N. Chandrasekaran in his third term, and India’s possible responses to U.S. president Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods. The lab aims to develop low-cost, real-time intelligent devices for sectors requiring agile IoT solutions, including healthcare, manufacturing, smart infrastructure, and security & surveillance. Solutions will be hardware-agnostic, configurable, secure, and service-oriented, supporting autonomous decision-making and efficient process automation.
As part of the IoT-focused Bringing Life to Things Network, the lab comes with 5G private networks and advanced infrastructure to enable rapid prototyping, experimentation, and large-scale deployment of smart, scalable, and sustainable solutions.
“By combining TCS’ Software Defined X approach with Qualcomm Technologies’ Edge AI platforms, TCS will create next-gen industry solutions that are adaptive, scalable, and sustainable – delivering exceptional value to our clients across sectors,” said Regu Ayyaswamy, Global Head, IoT & Digital Engineering, TCS.
A recent collaboration, under this initiative, saw the development of real-time smart visual anomaly detection for industrial inspections, achieving 90% accuracy using Qualcomm’s Edge AI-enabled devices.
