U.S. forces have launched a major attack on Iran targeting the coastal surveillance, air defence sites, and maritime capabilities. It may be noted that the renewed military hostilities entered tenth day after failure of the peace talks between the warring nations.
“Today at 9:40 p.m. ET, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed its latest major wave of strikes against Iran. U.S. forces, including fighter jets, aerial drones, and warships, launched precision munitions that hit dozens of Iranian military targets such as coastal surveillance and air defense sites, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities. This was the sixth consecutive night of U.S. strikes against Iran,” the U.S. Central Command said in a post on X short while ago.
“At the Commander in Chief's direction, CENTCOM is further degrading Iranian military capabilities and holding Iran accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping,” it said.
“More than 50,000 U.S. service members are operating across the Middle East and remain vigilant, lethal, and ready,” it added.
Meanwhile, Iran too warned of retaliatory action. Tehran yesterday said it would target infrastructure across the region if U.S. President Donald Trump attacked power plants and bridges in Iran.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they struck a U.S. airbase in Jordan. The strike was carried out with ballistic missiles in response to an alleged American attack near a children’s cancer hospital in the Islamic Republic, according to the Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
It may note that the trump administration has started enforcing the naval blockade against the Iranian vessels. It has been reported that American forces boarded a ship in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday to enforce the renewed blockade of Iran’s ports.
“US Marines boarded the M/T Wen Yao to ensure full compliance with the ongoing US naval blockade,” US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a post on X.
The previous day, a US aircraft fired on and disabled an unladen oil tanker that tried to break the blockade, according to the Central Command.
The U.S. military has been carrying on strikes on Iran ever since President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement to end the war was "over". Immediately after the declaration by Trump, the Central Command initiated fresh strikes. It maintained that the strikes are aimed at degrading Iran to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
