With Amazon Now scaling its micro-fulfilment footprint, the ecommerce major is betting on electric middle-mile logistics to support high-frequency deliveries and cut transport emissions

Amazon India plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks by 2028 for its quick commerce arm Amazon Now, marking one of the country’s largest dedicated electric truck deployments in the ecommerce and quick commerce sectors.
The company said the fleet, being developed in partnership with Eicher Trucks and Buses, will support intra-city cargo movement between fulfilment hubs and micro-fulfilment centres (MFCs) as Amazon accelerates the expansion of Amazon Now to 100 cities.
The move comes amid rising competition in India’s fast-growing quick commerce market, where delivery speed, network density and logistics efficiency have become key differentiators.
The American e-commerce player has already inducted around 50 Eicher Pro-X electric trucks into operations and expects the fleet size to cross 1,000 vehicles over the next three years.
The planned EV deployment aligns with Amazon’s broader strategy to rapidly scale Amazon Now, which the company recently said would expand its network to over 1,000 MFCs across India. The service currently delivers groceries, personal care products, electronics accessories and daily essentials within minutes.
The Eicher Pro-X trucks have been custom-built for high-frequency urban logistics operations and are expected to cover 100-180 km daily while supporting multiple trips between facilities. The vehicles can be fast-charged in nearly 50 minutes, according to the company.
Initial deployments will begin in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai before expanding to other markets including Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Kochi, Mangalore and Visakhapatnam.
Abhinav Singh, VP Operations, Amazon India and Australia, said the company has steadily expanded electric mobility across its logistics operations, with more than 12,000 EVs already deployed in India.
“We work closely with multiple OEM partners to build solutions suited to our needs, and are integrating electric transportation more deeply as we grow,” Singh said.
Amazon and VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) have been jointly developing electric truck solutions tailored for ecommerce operations since 2022. In 2025 alone, Amazon deployed over 100 electric trucks across cities such as Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata.
SS Gill, chief commercial officer at VECV, said the Eicher Pro-X platform was co-created specifically for Amazon’s operational requirements in ecommerce and quick commerce logistics.
Amazon said it now operates more than 12,500 electric vehicles across over 500 Indian cities as part of its broader decarbonisation strategy. The company is targeting net-zero carbon emissions across operations by 2040 under its Climate Pledge initiative.
