The BaaS model lowers the upfront acquisition cost of the Creta Electric, with battery rentals starting at ₹3.9 per km, as Hyundai looks to accelerate EV adoption amid intensifying competition in India's electric passenger vehicle market.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model for the Creta Electric, reducing the electric SUV's entry price to ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), excluding the battery cost. Under the new ownership structure, customers can opt for flexible battery financing plans with EMIs starting at ₹3.9 per kilometre, significantly lowering the upfront cost of owning an electric vehicle.
The move comes as automakers explore innovative ownership models to address one of the biggest hurdles to EV adoption in India—high acquisition costs. Besides introducing BaaS, Hyundai has also upgraded the Creta Electric with an integrated side foot step across the range and will now offer a 7.4 kW wall box charger with Home Charger (HC) variants based on customer demand, further strengthening its premium ownership proposition.
Commenting on the launch, Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said the company believes the future of mobility must be "accessible, intelligent and customer-centric."
"The introduction of Battery-as-a-Service for the Hyundai Creta Electric is a transformational step towards democratizing electric mobility in India. By significantly reducing the initial acquisition cost and offering flexible battery rental plans, we are enabling more customers to confidently transition to EVs while enjoying Hyundai's trusted technology, safety and innovation," Garg said.
The Creta Electric is available with two battery pack options—42 kWh and 51.4 kWh—and offers an ARAI-certified driving range of up to 510 km. The SUV supports DC fast charging, enabling the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes, while other features include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, Hyundai SmartSense Level 2 ADAS, Digital Key, Single Pedal Drive (i-Pedal), Active Air Flaps and an 8-year/1.6 lakh km battery warranty.
Hyundai said it continues to invest in India's EV charging infrastructure alongside product expansion. The company plans to install nearly 600 fast public EV charging stations over the next seven years and has already established infrastructure across 183 locations, comprising 214 DC chargers and 399 charging points. Through the myHyundai app, customers can also access more than 10,000 EV charging points across the country, the company claimed.
The company also highlighted the Creta Electric's real-world credentials, noting that the SUV recently covered 1,326.5 km in 24 hours, setting an India Book of Records benchmark, while completing 1,000 km in just 18 hours and 31 minutes. Hyundai's 'Test Driven by 100' campaign also saw the model cover 15,000 km across 10 states, 26 cities and over 200 destinations, generating more than 526 million views and 35 million likes across digital platforms.
The announcement comes just a day after Tata Motors launched the Sierra.ev at a starting price of ₹18.79 lakh (ex-showroom). Reviving one of the company's most iconic nameplates, the Sierra.ev has been positioned as a premium lifestyle electric SUV loaded with advanced technology and aimed at buyers seeking a spacious family vehicle.
