Mahindra expands BaaS programme to entire Electric Origin SUV range
Automaker’s dual-financing model aims to cut upfront EV costs and widen access to Electric Origin SUVs
Mahindra today expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to its entire Electric Origin SUV range, bringing the option to the BE 6 SPORTEQ, XEV 9S and XEV 9e. The company had introduced the model with the BE 6 SPORTEQ earlier this month.
BaaS allows buyers to finance the SUV and its battery separately. This brings down the initial price of the vehicle, while the battery is financed separately at an effective usage cost. For the BE 6 SPORTEQ, the price starts at ₹11.45 lakh under the BaaS model, with the battery financing working out to ₹3.75 per km.
The structure is intended to reduce the upfront amount buyers need to arrange for an electric SUV. Instead of paying for the vehicle and battery together, customers can separate the two costs through the dual-financing model.
Mahindra said the programme has received an “overwhelming response from customers across the country, validating the demand for ownership solutions that lower the barriers to EV adoption”. The company is now extending BaaS to its other Electric Origin SUVs following that response.
XEV 9S and XEV 9e prices under BaaS
The XEV 9S is now available under BaaS with prices starting at ₹12.65 lakh. The battery financing cost is ₹3.75 per km. The XEV 9e, meanwhile, starts at ₹13.90 lakh under the same structure, with battery financing also set at an effective ₹3.75 per km. Mahindra has also extended BaaS across all variants of the BE 6 SPORTEQ. This gives buyers across the range the option of choosing the separate financing structure rather than paying for the battery as part of the vehicle price.
The ₹3.75 per km figure is linked to the financing arrangement and should not be read as a simple pay-per-use battery rental. The programme is offered through financing partners, with approval subject to their terms. The stated prices also come with applicable conditions and exclusions.
The expansion means BaaS is now available across Mahindra's three Electric Origin SUVs. The company is using the model to address one of the biggest hurdles for EV buyers of the higher upfront cost of an electric vehicle.
