The new MoU with the Karnataka government positions India at the centre of Toyota’s mobility testing, intelligent manufacturing and engineering innovation strategy.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Karnataka to set up a 300-acre “TKM Bizintel Hub” at KWIN City near Bengaluru, reinforcing the automaker’s long-term commitment to India as a key global engineering and manufacturing base.
The proposed hub will focus on mobility testing and evaluation, intelligent manufacturing and digital transformation initiatives across Toyota’s value chain, as the company looks to deepen its technology and localisation footprint in one of its fastest-growing markets.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Industries Minister M.B. Patil and senior officials from Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
The development comes amid increasing investments by global automakers in India’s engineering, software and advanced manufacturing ecosystem, driven by the country’s skilled workforce and expanding digital infrastructure. Toyota said the Bizintel Hub would leverage India’s robust IT ecosystem and engineering talent to support future-ready mobility solutions and supply chain innovation.
Toyota Kirloskar currently operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi with a combined installed production capacity of 342,000 units annually and a workforce of more than 6,665 employees. The company manufactures models including the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Camry Hybrid and Urban Cruiser Hyryder in India.
Located within Karnataka’s upcoming Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation (KWIN) City corridor along the Doddaballapur–Dabaspet Highway, the proposed facility is expected to strengthen Toyota’s competitiveness through advanced testing capabilities and digitally integrated manufacturing systems.
“We are grateful to the Government of Karnataka for its continued support and collaboration over the years, which has played a key role in our journey,” said Masakazu Yoshimura, Chairman, Managing Director and CEO, Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
He added that India remains a “strategically important market” for Toyota’s innovation and sustainable mobility initiatives. According to Yoshimura, the new hub aligns with Toyota’s multi-pathway approach towards carbon neutrality while supporting national priorities such as ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the partnership marked another milestone in Karnataka’s industrial growth journey and would help generate quality employment while strengthening the state’s position as a global investment destination.
The project is also expected to support Karnataka’s broader ambitions of attracting next-generation investments linked to mobility, automation, engineering services and sustainable manufacturing technologies.
