Zoomcar integrates Uber Intercity as self-drive, chauffeur-driven options go live across 3 cities

Zoomcar and Uber have partnered to offer travellers a choice between self-drive cars and chauffeur-driven intercity rides within the Zoomcar app, as mobility platforms look to capture consumers seeking alternatives to vehicle ownership. The integration has gone live in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with the companies planning to extend it to additional cities.

Under the partnership, users searching for self-drive vehicles on Zoomcar will also be able to discover and book Uber Intercity rides on select routes for one-way and round trips. The integration allows customers to compare the two formats on a single platform rather than switching between apps to arrange an outstation journey.

Zoomcar has 42,000 vehicles on platform

The partnership expands the range of services available to Zoomcar’s user base. Founded in 2013, the Bengaluru-based peer-to-peer car-sharing platform operates across more than 100 cities and has over 42,000 vehicles onboarded, according to company data.

Zoomcar said its platform has more than 10 million guests and has facilitated over 5 million trips to date. It also claims 90% brand awareness in India’s car rental category.

The company’s model connects vehicle owners, or Hosts, with customers, or Guests, looking to rent cars for self-drive trips. The Uber integration adds a chauffeur-driven alternative for users who may prefer not to drive on particular journeys.

Uber Intercity targets growing outstation travel demand

Uber, meanwhile, said Intercity demand has been increasing across metropolitan and Tier-2 markets, driven by use cases including weekend travel, family visits and holidays.

“Uber Intercity has increasingly become the preferred choice for travel across cities, with demand growing across Tier-2 and metro markets alike,” said Rishant Ghosh, director, Consumer & Growth, Uber India & South Asia.

He said the partnership would make Uber Intercity accessible to a wider pool of travellers through Zoomcar’s platform.

‘Access over ownership’ shapes mobility choices

The tie-up comes as mobility companies increasingly seek to offer flexible access to transportation rather than relying solely on vehicle ownership. For travellers, the choice can vary by trip: a self-drive vehicle may offer greater control for a road trip, while a chauffeur-driven car can reduce the burden of driving on longer journeys.

Deepankar Tiwari, CEO of Zoomcar Holdings, said the partnership would allow users to make that choice without leaving the Zoomcar platform.

For now, the integration is limited to select routes across Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Mumbai, with further geographic expansion planned by the companies.
