Ather Energy shares jump 7% after ₹1,758 crore block deal; Hero MotoCorp set to raise stake to 32.8%

Stock hits fresh 52-week high as ₹1,758 crore block deal lifts valuation to about ₹63,000 crore and extends Ather’s stellar year-long rally

Shares of Ather Energy jumped 7% on Friday after a large block deal worth about ₹1,758 crore changed hands in the electric two-wheeler maker.

Ather Energy shares were trading at ₹1,601 on the NSE at the time of reporting, up ₹105.70, or 7.07%, from the previous close. 

The stock hit a 52-week high of ₹1,614.90 in today’s session, while its 52-week low is ₹421.60. On a year-to-date basis, Ather shares are up 117.63%, while the stock has gained 273.59% over the past year. At the current price, Ather Energy's market capitalisation is roughly ₹63,000 crore.

As many as 1,18,80,000 Ather shares were traded in the block deal at ₹1,480 apiece, taking the total transaction value to around ₹1,758.24 crore. The exchange data did not immediately identify the buyer or seller.

The deal comes a day after Hero MotoCorp said it would invest up to ₹1,758 crore to buy additional shares in Ather Energy from an existing shareholder. The transaction is expected to take Hero MotoCorp's stake in Ather to up to 32.8%, from 29.88% currently, on a fully diluted basis.

Hero MotoCorp to increase stake in Ather

Hero MotoCorp is already an existing shareholder and associate company of Ather Energy. As of August 25, 2026, it held a 29.88% stake in the company on a fully diluted basis. The company said the transaction “entails purchase of additional shares of Ather” from an existing shareholder. The purchase will be made in cash and is expected to be completed by September 3, 2026.

After the transaction, Hero MotoCorp's shareholding in Ather is expected to increase to up to around 32.8% on a fully diluted basis. Hero MotoCorp said the purchase of additional shares “does not fall within the purview of related party transactions”. It also said that no promoter, promoter group or group company of Hero MotoCorp has any interest in Ather.

The company does not require any government or regulatory approval for the purchase, according to its disclosure. The latest investment also comes days after Ather allotted convertible warrants worth ₹960 crore to Hero MotoCorp as part of a separate preferential issue. The move further increased Hero's exposure to the electric two-wheeler maker.
