The company has announced that Nanda will take over as CEO, while co-founder and outgoing chief executive Hari Menon, along with co-founder Vipul Parekh, will continue to serve on the board and mentor the leadership team.

As competition in India’s quick commerce market intensifies, Tata-backed bigbasket has appointed Amazon veteran Amit Nanda as its new chief executive officer (CEO), marking a leadership transition aimed at steering the company through its next phase of growth.
The company has announced that Nanda will take over as CEO, while co-founder and outgoing chief executive Hari Menon, along with co-founder Vipul Parekh, will continue to serve on the board and mentor the leadership team.
Nanda joins bigbasket after an 11-year stint at Amazon India, where he most recently served as Director, Selling Partner Services, overseeing one of the company’s largest businesses and India’s third-party marketplace ecosystem. During his tenure, he also played a key role in building and scaling Amazon’s private brands business and held leadership positions across marketplace, product and technology functions. Before Amazon, he worked at Hindustan Unilever and Citibank.
The appointment comes at a time when the online grocery and quick commerce sector is witnessing rapid expansion, with players racing to strengthen delivery networks, expand product offerings and improve customer retention.
As CEO, Nanda will be responsible for leading bigbasket’s growth strategy, reinforcing its position in quick commerce and driving innovation across its businesses.
“I am incredibly excited to join bigbasket and build upon the phenomenal trust it has established with millions of consumers across India,” Nanda said. “Combining bigbasket’s customer-first values with the trusted legacy of the Tata Group creates a strong foundation for the future.”
He added that he has “deep admiration” for the business built by Menon and the team, particularly its private label portfolio, and looks forward to capturing the “massive growth opportunities” ahead.
Nanda's move to bigbasket comes as Amazon ramps up its quick commerce ambitions, as it aims to break into the top tier of the market, largely dominated by Blinkit, Swiggy's Instamart, Zepto.
Menon, who co-founded bigbasket and has led the company since its inception, said the transition comes as the company prepares for its next stage of expansion.
“His deep understanding of consumers, strong track record of building and scaling businesses, and extensive experience across e-commerce and consumer sectors make him uniquely positioned to lead bigbasket for its journey ahead,” Menon said.
He added that he would remain closely involved with the company as a mentor and board member. “I remain deeply committed to bigbasket’s long-term success and am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for the business,” he said.
Sajith Sivanandan, CEO and managing director of Tata Digital and chairman of bigbasket, said Nanda’s experience in managing large-scale businesses and his understanding of digital commerce and consumer behaviour made him a strong fit for the role.
The company claims to serve more than 25 million customers across over 60 cities, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets. Its platform offers more than 30,000 products spanning groceries, fresh produce, medicines, fashion, electronics and beauty categories. To support deliveries, it operates a network of over 900 dark stores across the country.
