As the battle over copyrighted data and AI regulation intensifies globally, Eros Innovation is making a high-stakes bet that the future of artificial intelligence may belong not just to technology giants, but also to companies that own culturally rich, legally licensed datasets.

The company on Tuesday launched ErosADI, a sovereign AI infrastructure platform that combines entertainment-focused artificial intelligence models, blockchain-based rights management, creator monetisation systems, and digital identity infrastructure into a single operating ecosystem. The platform was unveiled in Abu Dhabi in partnership with the ADI Foundation.

The move indicates a broader shift underway in the media and entertainment industry, where content companies are increasingly attempting to reposition themselves as AI infrastructure players rather than remaining solely distributors of films, music, and digital content.

Why are entertainment companies repositioning themselves as AI infrastructure players?

At the centre of ErosADI is the company’s proprietary “Large Cultural Model” stack — domain-specific AI systems focused on storytelling, cinematic intelligence, and immersive cultural experiences. According to the company, these models have been trained on 1.5 trillion rights-cleared cultural tokens sourced from decades of owned and licensed entertainment assets.

That positioning is significant at a time when major AI companies are facing mounting lawsuits and regulatory scrutiny over allegations that copyrighted books, films, music, and online content were used without permission to train large AI models.

By emphasising licensed and provenance-backed datasets, Eros Innovation is attempting to differentiate itself from mainstream frontier AI firms that rely heavily on publicly scraped internet data.

The company describes ErosADI as a “cultural operating system” that allows creators, studios, institutions, governments, and brands to create, govern, license, distribute, and monetise AI-native cultural assets at scale.

The platform integrates multiple infrastructure layers, including a programmable rights registry, AI-native digital identity systems, super-agent architecture, and a “Global Cultural Exchange” designed to facilitate cross-border collaboration while maintaining sovereign ownership of data and governance.

Can sovereign AI become the next big battleground in the global AI economy?

The sovereign AI narrative is becoming increasingly important globally as governments seek greater control over how AI models are trained, where data is stored, and how national cultural assets are represented in emerging AI ecosystems.

The Middle East, especially the UAE, has emerged as a major hub for sovereign AI investments, supported by aggressive government-backed spending on AI infrastructure, blockchain systems, and digital economy initiatives.

ErosADI has been built on ADI Chain’s modular Layer-3 blockchain infrastructure, which the companies say enables jurisdiction-aware deployment, institutional-grade interoperability, and sector-specific execution environments.

The company also claims the platform introduces an economic participation layer for creators and rights holders. Programmable royalty systems embedded within the infrastructure are designed to enable automated revenue flows tied to attribution, usage, and ownership tracking — a feature increasingly being explored across the creator economy as AI-generated content proliferates.

“ErosADI is the infrastructure layer that makes sovereign cultural AI real at scale,” Swaneet Singh, co-president of Eros Innovation, said in a statement. “We have spent decades building one of the world’s largest rights-cleared cultural datasets, and now we are turning that into a programmable, compounding economic system for creators, institutions, and governments.”

Eros Innovation currently operates across AI-native creator platforms, cinematic AI production, programmable IP infrastructure, digital wellness, AI education, and cultural commerce ecosystems. The company says it has more than $1 billion in assets and a $2 billion independent valuation, with operations spanning London, Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

The commercial challenge ahead, however, will be substantial.

While sovereign AI and licensed-data ecosystems are attracting increasing attention, the market remains dominated by large technology companies with vast computing infrastructure and significantly deeper access to capital. For specialised AI platforms such as ErosADI, scaling enterprise adoption and proving sustainable monetisation models will be critical.

Still, the launch underscores how ownership of premium intellectual property and culturally contextual datasets may become one of the most valuable strategic advantages in the next phase of the AI economy — particularly as regulators tighten scrutiny around how artificial intelligence systems are trained and commercialised.
