These additional three aircraft will bring the total to planes damp leased by IndiGo from Norse Atlantic to four.
India’s biggest airline IndiGo on Wednesday announced another agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for damp lease of three Boeing 787-9 aircraft. These aircraft will be arriving in India in the second half of 2025 and will be serving long-haul routes out of India.
This comes a day after IndiGo said it will deploy its newly inducted wide-body aircraft on the Delhi-Bangkok route from March 1, 2025. It will be IndiGo's first international flight with the airline's new business class, IndiGo Stretch, which made its debut on domestic routes in November last year. On February 6, 2025, IndiGo had signed a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic for one Boeing 787-9.
These additional three damp-leases will bring the total to four and IndiGo and Norse continue to explore opportunities to broaden the cooperation and possibility for contracting more aircraft, the airline said.
The extension of IndiGo’s partnership with Norse Atlantic Airways for damp lease of additional three Boeing 787-9 aircraft will help the airline make strategic inroads and establish the brand in the European market, said Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo.
“As we execute our broader strategy to strengthen and extend our international network, we are steadily advancing towards our vision of becoming a global player by 2030,” Elbers added.
IndiGo is looking to double its fleet size by the end of the decade. It flew over 113 million passengers in 2024. With a fleet of more than 400 aircraft, IndiGo operates around 2,200 flights every day, connecting 90 domestic and 35 international destinations.
The initial term of the agreement is six months, extendable to up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals. Both parties remain committed to explore opportunities to further extend this period. IndiGo and Norse will continue exploring opportunities to contract additional aircraft and increase their collaboration further.
IndiGo is consistently expanding its global footprint with an aim to cater to the growing demand for international travel to and from India. To support and accelerate its long-haul expansion IndiGo has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus 350-900 wide body aircraft with an option for additional 70 aircraft, with deliveries expected to commence from 2027.
In 2023, India's largest carrier placed the biggest-ever aircraft order with French aerospace giant Airbus at the Paris Air Show. IndiGo signed a deal to buy 500 Airbus A320 aircraft, giving it a steady stream of deliveries between 2030 and 2035.
