Mahindra surpasses Hyundai to secure the second spot, recording retail sales of 39,858 units, according to the Vahan data. In the wholesale market, too, Mahindra outsold Hyundai.
Continuing its dominance in the Indian automobile market, Maruti Suzuki led the pack in February retail sales with 1,18,096 units, while Mahindra dethroned Hyundai to grab the second spot by recording a solid performance, selling 39,858 units in February, according to the official data on the government's Vahan platform. Tata Motors secured the third spot with 39,371 units, leading the 4th spot to Hyundai, which recorded 37,983 retail sales in February.
In 2025 so far, Maruti sold a total of 3,32,437 units in retail sales, grabbing the top spot. Hyundai remains on the 2nd spot at 99,039 units after recording the sale of 61,056 units in January. Tata Motors finishes at the 3rd spot after recording the retail sale of 94,829 units in the first two months of 2025. In the overall retail sales in 2025 so far, Mahindra comes in fourth at 93,929 units, the Vahan data shows.
In wholesale, Maruti Suzuki India sold a total of 1,99,400 units in February. Total sales in the month include domestic sales of 1,63,501 units, sales to other OEM of 10,878 units and exports of 25,021 units.
In the wholesale category as well, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) dethroned Hyundai in February 2025 by recording the overall sales of 50,420 vehicles, a growht of 19%. Overall, the company sold 52,386 vehicles in wholesale, including exports. Besides, the domestic sales for commercial vehicles stood at 23,826. Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., attributed the company's performance to a "continued positive momentum" for its SUV portfolio.
Hyundai Motor India recorded total monthly domestic wholesale of 47,727 units in February 2025. Including the export sales of 11,000 units, the total sales stood at 58,727. Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India says with a 6.8% YoY growth in export sales in February 2025, the company is witnessing increasing global demand for our Made-in-India products. He said on the domestic sales front, despite geopolitical challenges, the company remains optimistic that the proposed tax reforms in the Union Budget 2025 and improved liquidity will provide the much-needed demand boost to the market.
The wholesale data for Tata Motors shows the company sold 79,344 vehicles in the domestic and international market compared to 86,406 units during February 2024. Tata Motors' PV sales fell to 46,811 units, a drop of 9% YoY.
In the domestic market, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 26,414 units, while exports stood at 2,000 units, an increase of 13% as compared to the same period last year.
Suzuki Motorcycle India, the two-wheeler subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, has registered total sales of 90,206 units. This includes domestic sales of 73,455 units and exports of 16,751 units. The company sold a total of 97,435 units in February 2024, with 83,304 units in the domestic market and 14,131 units in exports.
