Initiative targets awareness gaps in cross-border trade as Karnataka’s large MSME base looks to tap global markets

Shiprocket is stepping up its push to enable small businesses to tap global markets, with the Bengaluru leg of its ShiprocketX Yatra focussing on improving export readiness among MSMEs and digital-first brands.
The initiative comes at a time when a growing number of startups and D2C companies are exploring international markets, but continue to face hurdles around compliance, logistics, and cross-border operations.
According to government data, Karnataka is home to over 90 lakh MSMEs, with Bengaluru playing a central role in sectors such as electronics, apparel, and consumer goods.
However, industry participants point to limited awareness of export processes and infrastructure constraints as key barriers for smaller firms attempting to scale globally.
Shiprocket’s outreach programme is aimed at addressing these gaps by engaging directly with businesses on regulatory requirements, shipping solutions and digital tools needed for cross-border trade.
“Bangalore is home to a new generation of digital-first brands… we aim to equip these businesses with the right tools and infrastructure support to enter international markets,” said Akshay Ghulati, CEO – international shipping at Shiprocket.
The company said the initiative is focussed on simplifying entry barriers for smaller sellers, particularly around documentation, compliance and logistics.
“Our focus is on simplifying the complexities of cross-border trade so that sellers from the region can scale globally with confidence and agility,” he added.
The awareness drive is being complemented by partnerships, including with India Post, aimed at improving access to export infrastructure and streamlining processes for MSMEs entering global markets.
The initiative highlights a wider push to enable Indian MSMEs to transition from domestic sellers to global brands, at a time when cross-border e-commerce is becoming an increasingly important growth avenue.
