Suzlon plans ₹10,000 crore Andhra Pradesh wind expansion; targets 5 GW capacity by 2030

Suzlon Group plans to invest ₹10,000 crore in Andhra Pradesh to develop 1,325 MW of new wind power projects as the company seeks to expand its renewable energy footprint in the state and take its total capacity there to 5 GW by 2030.

The projects will be concentrated around Govindawada in Anantapur district’s Rayadurgam Assembly constituency and will be developed in partnership with renewable energy companies including Tata Power and Waaree Energy. The proposed investment is expected to generate around 4,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, adding to the economic activity around the state’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Suzlon partners Tata Power, Waaree for expansion

Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group, said the partnership reflected the strategic importance of bringing together companies with established positions in India’s renewable energy industry.

"The partnership in Andhra Pradesh is strategically significant, as it brings together companies that have played pioneering roles in India's renewable energy sector. Both Waaree and Suzlon have emerged as leaders in solar and wind energy respectively, with a strong global presence, paving the way for scalable clean energy growth," Tanti said.

The expansion will also be supported by Suzlon’s manufacturing base in Anantapur. Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh is scheduled to inaugurate new S144 wind turbine blade production lines in the district, where Suzlon has operated since 2004.

Anantapur manufacturing base accounts for 40% of blade output

Suzlon’s Ippuru facility in Anantapur has an annual blade production capacity of 1,260 MW, accounting for around 40% of the company’s total blade output. The company said it has invested ₹12,000 crore in its manufacturing presence in the state over the years.

Beyond generation and manufacturing, Suzlon is working with the Andhra Pradesh government on a green-skills training programme. Its Wind Energy Learning Centres in Vijayawada and Uravakonda are expected to train 12,000 professionals, with women accounting for 25% of the trainees.

The expansion comes after a strong first quarter for Suzlon. Its revenue rose 23% year-on-year to ₹3,819 crore, aided by record delivery volumes. The company also has a sizeable order pipeline, including more than 1 GW of orders from Tata Power, providing visibility for further capacity deployment as India accelerates its shift towards renewable energy.
