The project will supply renewable energy to four Tata Motors manufacturing plants, helping offset over 1.4 lakh tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year and advance the automaker's RE100 target by 2030.

Tata Motors Ltd. has partnered with Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited (WREPL) to develop an 86 MW wind-solar hybrid renewable energy project that is expected to generate around 200 million units of clean electricity annually, as the country's largest commercial vehicle maker steps up efforts to decarbonise its manufacturing operations.
The long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will supply green power exclusively to four Tata Motors manufacturing facilities located across Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka.
The renewable energy project is expected to offset more than 1.4 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year while supporting Tata Motors' commitment to source 100% renewable electricity under the RE100 initiative by 2030. Structured through a co-investment model and backed by a long-term PPA, the project marks another milestone in the company's broader roadmap towards achieving net-zero emissions through sustainable manufacturing practices.
The hybrid wind-solar installation will provide a reliable and continuous supply of renewable electricity to Tata Motors' commercial vehicle manufacturing operations in the four states. Hybrid renewable projects combine wind and solar generation to improve power availability and reduce intermittency, making them increasingly attractive for energy-intensive industrial operations.
The initiative comes as India's manufacturing sector accelerates investments in captive and group captive renewable energy assets to lower energy costs, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and comply with increasingly stringent environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
Commenting on the partnership, Vishal Badshah, Vice President – Operations, Tata Motors Ltd., said the project reflects the company's continued focus on building greener and more energy-efficient manufacturing operations.
"The scale and integrated nature of this wind-solar hybrid solution will help us secure a reliable supply of renewable energy for key commercial vehicle manufacturing facilities, while meaningfully reducing carbon emissions across operations on a sustained basis. Collaborations like these are critical as we progress to fulfil our RE100 commitment and net-zero aspirations," he said.
Kapil Maheshwari, MD & CEO of Welspun Renewable Energy Private Limited, described the agreement as a milestone in the company's clean energy journey, saying the partnership demonstrates how large industrial manufacturers can accelerate decarbonisation through long-term renewable energy collaborations. He added that the company remains committed to developing resilient renewable energy infrastructure for utilities as well as commercial and industrial consumers.
