Amazon Prime Video and Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films sign mega multi-year post-theatrical licensing deal for 8 films

Amazon Prime Video has signed a licensing deal with Dinesh Vijan-led production house Maddock Films for 8 upcoming films made under the banner. The companies did not reveal the value of the deal.

“This multi-film slate not only builds on the unique and wildly popular horror-comedy universe and franchise sequels but also brings in a distinctive blend of creative originality and fresh storytelling that is synonymous with Maddock. We look forward to entertaining our customers with the post-theatrical premieres of some of India’s most eagerly awaited films,” said Manish Menghani, director & head of content licensing, Prime Video, India, in a statement.

The slate of films set to stream exclusively on the OTT platform includes upcoming Aayushmaan Khurrana and Rashmika Mandhana-starrer Thama, two untitled titles, Sidharth Malhotra, Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Param Sundari, franchise films such as Shiddat 2 and Badlapur 2, and Sriram Raghavan-directed Ikkis featuring Agastya Nanda.

The multi-crore rupee deal is going to run through between 2025 and 2027. This is one of the first-of-its kind deal that Amazon has signed with any production houses so far. The films will thus be available to over 240 countries and territories around the world.

“Prime Video has consistently championed cinema that transcends languages, geographies, and formats. This strategic long-term post-theatrical licensing deal is a natural extension of our shared vision: to take Indian storytelling to a truly global stage,” said Dinesh Vijan, CEO & founder, Maddock Films, in a statement.

Earlier as well, over 5 films and series under the production house are available on the platform including Stree 2, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Stree, Bhool Chuk Maaf, and original series Jee Karda.

While neither entities have given information on after how many weeks of their theatrical release will these films under the deal be available on the OTT platform, according to the industry standards, the films might appear after 8 weeks of theatrical run.

While the company did not confirm to Fortune India if more such partnerships with other production houses are expected, the company has had long-standing partnerships with TVF (The Viral Fever) with successful series such as Panchayat, and Gram Chikitsalaya. Additionally, Prime Video also works as a video entertainment marketplace offers a wide range of programming through Prime Video Channels, featuring content from Apple TV+, Lionsgate Play, Discovery+, Crunchyroll, BBC Player, Sony Pictures – Stream, MGM+, FanCode, Chaupal, Manorama Max, Eros Now, Hoichoi, Anime Times, and more. Customers can access these add-on subscriptions or rent movies directly, even without a Prime membership.

In a previous media briefing where Fortune India was present, Shilangi Mukherji, director & head, Amazon Prime Video SVOD Business, India, had revealed that the platform sees over 5,000 titles rented by users each month.
