Whether you're planning a trip to the cinema or settling in for a binge-watch at home, this weekend's entertainment slate has something for every kind of viewer. From Alia Bhatt's much-awaited entry into the YRF Spy Universe and Rajkumar Hirani's OTT debut to Millie Bobby Brown returning as Enola Holmes, the first weekend of July is packed with big-ticket releases across streaming platforms and theatres.

The latest release calendar also reflects a growing trend in the entertainment industry. While theatres continue to rely on large-scale action spectacles and franchise films to bring audiences back to the big screen, OTT platforms are investing heavily in original series, global franchises and genre-driven storytelling to keep viewers engaged at home.

OTT releases this weekend

One of the biggest digital releases this week is Pritam and Pedro, which starts streaming on JioHotstar from July 3. Marking filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's OTT debut, the comedy-crime series stars Arshad Warsi as an old-school Goa police officer who teams up with a young hacker, played by Vir Hirani, to solve the kidnapping of a minister's son. Vikrant Massey, Boman Irani and Mona Singh also feature in the series.

Netflix brings back one of its most popular mystery franchises with Enola Holmes 3, which released on Netflix on July 1. Millie Bobby Brown reprises her role as the young detective, who finds herself racing across Malta after Sherlock Holmes mysteriously disappears. Henry Cavill, Helena Bonham Carter and Himesh Patel return to the franchise.

Prime Video expands the Legally Blonde universe with Elle, which started streaming on Prime Video on July 1. The prequel explores the teenage years of Elle Woods. Set in the 1990s, the series follows her journey as she adapts to a new school and discovers the confidence that later defines the iconic character.

Netflix is also releasing Worst Neighbor Ever, which premiered on July 1, alongside the final season of comedy series Survival of the Thickest, which released on July 2, starring Michelle Buteau. Anime fans can stream Sparks of Tomorrow, which arrives on Netflix on July 5.

Other notable releases include Silo Season 3, which premiered on Apple TV+ on July 3, Malayalam satire Mollywood Times, streaming on JioHotstar from July 3, Malayalam folk-horror series Muthassi, streaming on ZEE5 from July 3, action thriller Protector, streaming on JioHotstar from July 3, and Telugu mystery series Veerabhadruni Rahasyam, which debuted on ZEE5 on July 3.

In theatres this weekend

The biggest theatrical release of the week is Alpha, which released in cinemas on July 3. Starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the film marks the first female-led instalment in the YRF Spy Universe. Directed by Shiv Rawail, the action thriller also stars Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, with a cameo by Hrithik Roshan. It is expected to be among the month's biggest box-office releases.

Also arriving in cinemas is Baby Do Die Do, which released in theatres on July 3. Starring Huma Qureshi as India's first deaf-mute contract killer, the film is set against Mumbai's underworld and blends crime, mystery and dark comedy, offering one of the more unconventional Hindi releases of the year.

Regional cinema also has a strong presence this weekend. Telugu mythology adventure Nagabandham released in cinemas on July 3 across multiple languages, while Tamil family entertainer Gatta Kusthi 2 also hit theatres on July 3. International audiences can also catch The Death of Robin Hood, which released in cinemas on July 3, starring Hugh Jackman in a darker, more introspective take on the legendary outlaw.
