The Indian benchmark indices made a strong comeback in today’s trading session after a subdued previous session. The BSE Sensex soared by 594.95 points, or 0.73%, settling at 82,380.69, while the Nifty 50 closed at 25,239.10, up by 0.68%.
While 42 stocks on the Nifty50 index advanced, 8 stocks declined, and on the BSE Sensex30 index, there were 28 gainers and 2 losers.
Kotak Mahindra Bank emerged as a top gainer, rallying by 2.67%, bringing its share price ₹2,023.50. Larsen and Toubro trailed right behind, rising by 2.67%, and Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), up by 2.34%. Other auto companies, Eicher Motors and Maruti Suzuki, too, were in the top five gainers in today’s trade.
On the other hand, Shriram Finance, Asian Paints, and Nestle India were top laggards, each dragging by around 0.80%.
On the sectoral front, Nifty Auto and Nifty Realty outperformed their peers, each advancing by 1.44% and 1.07% respectively. IT, metal, and media rose by nearly 1% each. Rest of the sectoral indices also traded in the green, except for Nifty FMCG and Nifty MidSmall Healthcare, which declined by 0.27% and 0.24%, respectively.
The broader markets continued their positive trend, with Nifty Midcap 50 rising by 0.57%, and the Nifty Smallcap adding 0.85%. Positive investor sentiment led to today’s recovery and additional gains, which was also reflected by the Indian volatility index, or VIX, cooling down by 1.20% to 10.27.
Among individual stocks, Tata Motors saw a downtick of 1% in today’s intraday, as Jaguar Land Rover extended a production halt by a week following a cybersecurity incident. Its shares made a small rebound to end marginally positive by 0.28%.
Textile stocks, too, recorded a sharp rally, as India and the U.S. may finalise a trade deal, with hopes of a reduction in tariffs, sparking investors’ optimism. Vardhman Textiles, Trident, Gokaldas Exports, Indo Count Industries, Pearl Global, Welspun Living, and KPR Mill saw a surge of 6% in their share prices in today’s session.
Even shares of energy companies surged, fuelling Nifty Energy to continue its winning streak for the fifth consecutive session with a 0.89% rise. Aegis Logistics soared by 6.34%, followed by Mahanagar Gas Limited, rising by 5.19%. Reliance Power, Gujarat State Petronet, and GE Vernova T&D India also advanced, adding up to 4% to their shares.
