The highly anticipated Nothing Phone 3a series is all set for its grand unveiling on March 4. The Carl Pei-led tech company has teased a range of exciting upgrades, from improved processing power to an enhanced camera experience, ahead of the slated launch. The series is expected to feature two models: Nothing Phone 3a and Nothing Phone 3a Pro.

Telephoto camera upgrade takes centre stage

As per reorts, the Nothing Phone 3a would take a significant leap from its predecessor by featuring a 50 MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 6x in-sensor zoom, enabling a combined 60x hybrid zoom—dubbed Ultra Zoom by the company. This will allow users to capture detailed macro shots and high-quality portraits using a 70mm focal length.

To complement this hardware, Nothing is introducing its TrueLens Engine 3.0, powered by AI-driven features like AI tone mapping and scene detection. This aims to deliver noticeably improved photos, enhancing clarity, colour accuracy, and detail, especially in low-light conditions. The main shooter will also be a 50 MP camera—reportedly more powerful than the one on the Phone 2a, capturing more light for better night photography.

Performance: A return to Qualcomm

CEO Carl Pei recently confirmed that Nothing is returning to Qualcomm for the 3a series. The new CPU is said to offer 25% faster performance and a 72% improvement in AI processing, courtesy of a significantly faster Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

While the official chipset hasn’t been confirmed, leaks suggest the use of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3—a capable processor built for handling multitasking, gaming, and AI-powered tasks with ease.

Display, battery, and iconic design

The Nothing Phone 3a is rumoured to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, making it slightly larger than the 6.7-inch screen on the Phone 2a.

Battery life could see a boost too, with a 5,000mAh battery expected to power the device, coupled with fast-charging support for quick top-ups.

On the design front, fans can expect the signature Glyph Lighting Interface and the transparent back panel—hallmarks of Nothing’s minimalist, futuristic aesthetic. Recent teasers suggest that the design language will stay true to the brand’s distinctive style.

With its focus on camera enhancements and a performance boost, the Nothing Phone 3a series is shaping up to be a significant upgrade—potentially addressing the shortcomings of the Phone 2a while refining its most loved features.
