The updated 7 Series brings changes to its exterior design, cabin technology and electric drivetrain. BMW has also begun local production of the i7 at its Chennai plant, making India the only country outside Germany where the electric model is locally manufactured. The i7 M70 will be sold in India as a completely built-up unit.

BMW Group India President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said the new 7 Series is positioned as the company's flagship statement of modern luxury and represents the new face of its Luxury Class.

He stated, "The model offers customers a choice between combustion engines and electric mobility, reflecting BMW's “Power of Choice” approach. Brar added that the car incorporates technologies that offer an early indication of features being developed for the Neue Klasse era.

740 M Sport gets 400-hp petrol engine

The BMW 740 M Sport uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine producing 400 hp and 540 Nm of peak torque. It accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph.

The i7 eDrive50 xDrive produces 455 hp and 660 Nm, with a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 210 kmph. Its 112.5-kWh battery delivers a claimed WLTP range of up to 728 km, 125 km more than the outgoing model.

The i7 M70 xDrive gets two electric motors producing 680 hp and up to 1,100 Nm of torque when Launch Control or Sport Boost is activated. It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph, while its WLTP range stands at 686 km.

Brar described the i7 M70 as the most powerful 7 Series ever created, combining BMW M performance with the luxury expected from its flagship portfolio. He said the model is aimed at customers seeking both the driving experience from the front seat and the comfort of being chauffeured in the rear, while arguing that electric mobility, performance and luxury need not be competing propositions.

Panoramic iDrive, 14.6-inch passenger screen

The revamped 7 Series introduces BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X, alongside a 17.9-inch central display and BMW's first passenger screen, a 14.6-inch touchscreen. Panoramic Vision projects information across the lower section of the windscreen and works with a BMW 3D Head-up Display.

Rear-seat features include Executive Lounge seating and a 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen paired with a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos. The sedan also gets radar-based automatic doors and an optional Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof with more than 40 LEDs.
