EKA Mobility on Thursday unveiled its new 9-metre electric school bus at Prawaas 5.0, expanding its electric commercial vehicle portfolio with a purpose-built solution for school transportation.
The EKA 9M Electric School Bus, developed on the company's lightweight monocoque platform, features a high-strength steel structure designed to enhance safety, ride comfort and operational efficiency. The bus can accommodate up to 43 passengers and a driver and complies with AIS 052 safety standards.
The vehicle is equipped with an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and air suspension to provide improved stability and passenger safety.
EKA Mobility said the bus is available with 100 kWh and 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs, offering a driving range of up to 180 km on a single charge. It also supports CCS2 fast charging, enabling a full recharge in less than one hour and 45 minutes.
"The launch of our EKA 9M Electric School Bus reflects EKA Mobility's commitment to developing purpose-built electric mobility solutions that address the evolving needs of India's transportation ecosystem," said Sudhir Mehta.
"As educational institutions increasingly embrace sustainable mobility, we are proud to introduce a next-generation school bus that combines safety, efficiency and innovation. This addition further strengthens our commercial EV portfolio and reinforces our vision of enabling a cleaner, smarter and self-reliant future for mobility in India," he added.
At Prawaas 5.0, the company is also showcasing its broader electric mobility portfolio, including the EKA Coach, EKA 12M Low Entry Electric Bus, EKA 3S, and EKA 6S, targeting applications across city transit, institutional transport, and last-mile passenger mobility.
EKA Mobility, a participant in the Government of India's Auto Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, said it remains focused on accelerating the country's transition to sustainable transportation through indigenous innovation and advanced engineering. The exhibition is being held at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from July 9 to 11.
