Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Tuesday said it has partnered with Jio-bp to integrate their electric vehicle (EV) charging networks, taking the number of public charging points accessible through its myHyundai app to more than 37,000 across India.
The integration brings over 7,000 Jio-bp pulse charging points across more than 300 cities into HMIL’s existing network of 30,000+ charging points. The move comes as automakers seek to expand charging access alongside the growth of EV sales, with availability and reliability of public chargers remaining key considerations for buyers.
Jio-bp network spans 300+ cities
Jio-bp, the operating brand of Reliance BP Mobility, will add charging infrastructure that includes DC fast chargers with capacities ranging from 60 kW to 480 kW. The company said its network has an uptime of 96%, while several charging points are located along major national highways.
Hyun Sup Lee, executive director and function head, corporate planning, HMIL, said the company was seeing a shift in customer concerns “from range anxiety to charging anxiety” as its EV portfolio expands.
“This partnership with Jio-bp pulse marks another significant step towards strengthening the EV ecosystem in India by enhancing charging accessibility and convenience for our customers,” Lee said.
Jio-bp Chairman Sarthak Behuria said the tie-up would combine the two companies’ charging networks as India moves towards greater adoption of electric mobility.
“By bringing our nationwide network and high-performance charging infrastructure to Hyundai, we are not just adding charging points, we are building that trust together,” Behuria said.
Charging access to be opened to EV users across brands
Meanwhile, the company revealed that myHyundai app will allow EV users, irrespective of vehicle brand, to discover and use charging points available on its network. This means the additional Jio-bp chargers can be accessed through the app by a wider pool of EV owners.
Jio-bp CEO Akshay Wadhwa said charger availability alone was not sufficient if stations were not operational when required.
“For EV owners, range anxiety is often not just about charger availability, but about knowing whether the next charger will be operational,” Wadhwa said.
Hyundai targets 600 DC fast-charging stations
HMIL currently operates 183 DC fast-charging stations and plans to increase the number to 600 by 2030. The company’s own DC fast chargers, including future installations, will also be gradually made available on the Jio-bp pulse charge pro app.
The two companies also plan to explore customer offers linked to the charging networks, HMIL said.
