JSW MG launches Hector Tomahawk EV, PHEV; prices start at ₹13.99 lakh under BaaS

JSW MG Motor India on Wednesday launched the Hector Tomahawk with electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains, marking the automaker’s push into multiple new-energy technologies through a single SUV platform. While Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) version starts at an introductory ₹19.49 lakh ex-showroom, the PHEV is priced from ₹25.69 lakh. Under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, prices start at ₹13.99 lakh for the EV and ₹21.79 lakh for the PHEV, excluding battery rental.
The launch comes as automakers expand beyond conventional hybrids and battery-electric vehicles to cater to varied driving and charging requirements. The Tomahawk is the first SUV built on MG’s ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology), which the company describes as its multi-new-energy vehicle platform.
Parth Jindal, Director, JSW MG Motor India, stated the EV and PHEV versions reflect the company’s focus on offering “a diverse portfolio of new-age mobility solutions” suited to changing customer needs and driving patterns.
EV claims 517-km range; PHEV crosses 1,100 km
The Hector Tomahawk EV gets a 69.2-kWh battery paired with a permanent-magnet synchronous motor producing 150 kW and 310 Nm. MG claims a 517-km ARAI/MIDC range, with DC fast-charging capability of up to 90 kW. The EV will be available in five- and seven-seat configurations, with deliveries beginning in September.
The seven-seat PHEV combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine, dedicated hybrid transmission and 20.5-kWh battery, offering more than 115 km of pure-electric range. Its 148-kW electric motor enables a claimed 0-100 kmph acceleration time of around nine seconds. MG claims a combined driving range of over 1,100 km on a full tank and full charge. The PHEV is available only as a seven-seater, with deliveries starting in November.
BaaS lowers upfront cost
Under the introductory BaaS programme, the Tomahawk EV starts at ₹13.99 lakh plus ₹4.90 per km battery rental, while the PHEV starts at ₹21.79 lakh plus ₹3.20 per km. These prices are applicable to a limited number of bookings.
Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India, said the company believes the future of mobility will not be defined by a single technology, adding that ADAPT is intended to give consumers the flexibility to choose the technology suited to their requirements.
The Tomahawk measures 4,745 mm in length, has a 2,810-mm wheelbase and 230-mm ground clearance at the battery. It also gets a 15.6-inch display, Level 2 ADAS, V2H capability and a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner of both powertrain versions.
