JSW Motors has entered into a strategic partnership with Tata Elxsi to build a software-defined, connected mobility ecosystem, marking a key step in the JSW Group’s push into new-energy passenger vehicles.
The two companies on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding to set up the JNEXT – JSW NextGen Technology Center in Pune, which will function as a core engineering and innovation hub for upcoming vehicle programmes.
The Pune-based centre will focus on developing connected platforms for new energy vehicles (NEVs), including electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids and plug-in hybrids, aligning with the global shift toward electrification and software-led automotive architectures.
Under the partnership, Tata Elxsi will take end-to-end ownership of the connected vehicle platform and a unified customer experience application for JSW Motors—from conceptualisation and system integration to production and aftersales support—working alongside a broader ecosystem of partners.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen JSW Motors’ localisation strategy by embedding capabilities across digital engineering, cloud platforms, over-the-air (OTA) frameworks, and digital twin technologies. It will also incorporate advanced solutions such as AI/ML analytics, cybersecurity, 5G-enabled services, and immersive technologies like AR/VR/XR to enhance user experience across the vehicle lifecycle.
Ranjan Nayak, CEO, JSW Motors, said, “At JSW Motors, we are building a technology-led, new-energy mobility ecosystem that is deeply rooted in India and globally competitive. Tata Elxsi's proven expertise across software-defined vehicles, ADAS, electrification, and digital engineering will help us accelerate development timelines and raise the bar on quality, safety, and innovation. This partnership is a step forward in our commitment to indigenisation, delivering world-class vehicles for Indian customers.”
The engagement will extend to software-defined vehicle (SDV) architectures, including platforms for diagnostics, predictive maintenance and performance optimisation, alongside testing, validation, and functional safety aligned with global automotive standards.
Manoj Raghavan, MD & CEO, Tata Elxsi, said, “The future of mobility will be increasingly connected and software-defined, where vehicles continuously evolve through software, data, and intelligent systems. Our collaboration with JSW Motors reflects this shift, enabling scalable and adaptable vehicle platforms. The JNEXT – JSW NextGen Technology Center will be instrumental in translating this into real-world mobility solutions across vehicle programmes.”
The partnership comes as JSW Motors—part of the $23 billion JSW Group—steps up investments in EV manufacturing and technology, including a greenfield facility in Maharashtra. The alliance with Tata Elxsi signals a clear pivot toward software-centric vehicle development, as automakers increasingly compete on digital capabilities rather than just hardware.
