Maruti Suzuki India has dispatched 10 lakh vehicles through its in-plant railway sidings at Hansalpur in Gujarat and Manesar in Haryana, as the automaker increases the use of rail for transporting vehicles from its manufacturing facilities.

Of the cumulative 10 lakh vehicles, around 7.9 lakh were dispatched through the Gujarat siding, while the Manesar facility accounted for approximately 2.1 lakh vehicles. Operations at the Gujarat siding began in March 2023, followed by the Manesar siding in June 2025.

In the current financial year up to August 31, 2026, Maruti Suzuki’s rail-based vehicle dispatches have crossed 3 lakh units. The company said the Gujarat and Manesar in-plant sidings together accounted for 70% of its total rail-based vehicle dispatches during the period.

Rail share rises to 26.5% in FY26

Maruti Suzuki’s overall share of vehicle dispatches through rail has increased from 5% in FY2014-15 to 26.5% in FY2025-26. The company has set a target of taking this share to 35% by FY2030-31, with further investment in rail infrastructure, including a proposed in-plant siding at its new Kharkhoda facility.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “With our Gujarat and Manesar in-plant railway sidings contributing to 70% of total rail-based dispatches in the current fiscal, we are making strong progress in scaling up rail-based vehicle transportation.”

33 lakh vehicles dispatched by rail since FY15

Since FY2014-15, Maruti Suzuki has dispatched more than 33 lakh vehicles by rail. Of this, 10 lakh vehicles have moved through its in-plant sidings in Gujarat and Manesar, while the remaining vehicles were dispatched using loading terminals located outside its manufacturing facilities.

The company said moving vehicles from road to rail helps reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions while easing road congestion. The in-plant facilities allow vehicles to be loaded directly onto trains within the manufacturing premises, removing the need for trucks to transport them to an external railway station.

The two sidings are part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader expansion of rail-based outbound logistics, with the company also planning an in-plant siding at Kharkhoda as it works towards the 35% rail-dispatch share target by FY31. The 35% target has also been stated by Maruti Suzuki in its earlier disclosures.
