Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL), the Indian two-wheeler subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor Corp, laid the foundation stone for its new manufacturing plant in Haryana on Tuesday.

SMIPL’s second manufacturing facility at Kharkhoda will be developed with an initial investment of close to ₹1200 crore and will have an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units in the first phase. The facility is spread across 100 acres of land, with the manufacturing unit initially covering 25 acres and an additional 25 acres dedicated to green space.

The plant is scheduled to commence operations in 2027, further boosting SMIPL’s production capabilities in India. Once functional, it will provide employment to around 2,000 people, the company said.

Located at IMT Kharkhoda, an industrial township developed by HSIIDC, the facility aligns with the government’s vision to boost industrial infrastructure, attract global investments and generate employment in the region.

This new manufacturing facility is a part of SMIPL’s strategy to meet the rising demand for its products in the Indian market while also supporting local development and job creation.

“The Kharkhoda plant will help us to serve our customers better, support our dealer partners and strengthen collaboration with our suppliers. The basic concept of this plant is lean manufacturing. It will also feature modern automation and energy-efficient systems, helping us move towards Suzuki’s global vision for carbon neutrality and sustainability,” said Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director, Suzuki Motorcycle India.

Meanwhile, Japanese automaker Suzuki’s Indian passenger vehicle subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Ltd enhanced its CSR footprint in eight villages near its Kharkhoda facility. As part of its CSR commitment, India’s largest carmaker is implementing targeted community development projects across key development areas - education, community infrastructure, healthcare and sanitation, in consultation with the local community leaders.

“As an industry leader, Maruti Suzuki has consistently prioritised community development in the areas surrounding its facilities in Gurgaon, Manesar, Rohtak and Mehsana. Kharkhoda marks our new greenfield facility. Community welfare remains integral to our journey in Kharkhoda and evolves alongside our new facility. Through our focused CSR initiatives in education, community infrastructure, healthcare and sanitation, we aim to empower local communities, vendor employees and overall improve standard of living in the area,” said Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki.

Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki approved a ₹7,410-crore investment to set up a third plant in Haryana’s Kharkhoda with a capacity of up to 2.5 lakh vehicles per year. The existing capacity at Kharkhoda stands at 2.5 lakh units per year. Another plant with a capacity of 2.5 lakh units per year is under construction. The proposed capacity addition would be up to 2.5 lakh units per year. With this addition, the capacity at Kharkhoda is likely to reach 7.5 lakh units per year by 2029. Kharkhoda plant is a green-field project where the first plant started commercial operations in February 2025.
