Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast has strengthened its India credentials after its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs secured the highest 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), a key benchmark as the company prepares to scale its presence in the country.

According to Bharat NCAP test data, both models achieved top ratings across Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP). The VF 6 scored 27.13 out of 32 points in AOP and 44.41 out of 49 in COP, while the VF 7 registered 28.54 points and 45.25 points respectively, placing both vehicles among the safest electric SUVs currently evaluated under India’s crash testing regime.

Strong performance across crash test categories

According to the company, crash test results showed strong performance across frontal, side and pole impact assessments. In frontal offset tests, protection scores for the head, neck and upper legs of both driver and front passenger reached the maximum permissible levels.

Side impact tests resulted in full marks for adult and child occupants across both vehicles. In pole side impact tests, head injury assessment values for the VF 6 and VF 7 were recorded at 109 and 131 respectively—well below the Bharat NCAP critical threshold of 700, according to the Vietnamese carmaker.

VinFast India CEO Tapan Ghosh said the certification validated the company’s engineering approach as it expands locally. “These ratings demonstrate that our vehicles meet stringent safety standards in a demanding and diverse market like India,” he said.

Bharat NCAP, implemented by the Government of India and aligned with global safety assessment frameworks, awards ratings based on a combination of structural integrity and occupant protection parameters. A 5-star rating indicates compliance with the most stringent safety norms currently applicable in the Indian market.

Product positioning and India roadmap

The VF 6 and VF 7 are assembled at VinFast’s manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and form the cornerstone of the company’s premium-first India strategy. The VF 6 is currently priced in the ₹16.5–18.5 lakh range, while the VF 7 is positioned higher, between ₹21 lakh and ₹26.8 lakh (ex-showroom).

Built on an EV-dedicated platform, both models come with seven airbags and offer advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, emergency braking and blind spot detection, depending on the variant.

The safety milestone comes as VinFast evaluates expanding its portfolio beyond the premium segment, including potential offerings in the ₹10–14 lakh EV price band and new body styles such as a three-row electric MPV. The automaker plans to launch three new models in India this year while simultaneously expanding its retail footprint and charging ecosystem, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
