The session highlighted Assam’s semiconductor manufacturing, design ecosystem, and investment opportunities, which will contribute significantly to India’s broader semiconductor strategy.

In a major boost to the state’s growing semiconductor industry, the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led Assam government signed MoUs with 10 leading semiconductor companies from Singapore, Malaysia, and Japan on the first day of the Advantage Assam 2.0 - Investment & Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati.

Attending a session titled Advancing Semiconductor Horizons in Assam for Viksit Bharat with Union Minister of Electronics & Information Technology and Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, Sarma said the semiconductor facility being developed in Jagiroad has become a hub of opportunities.

Referring to Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran’s interest in setting up a mobile manufacturing unit with a financial outlay of ₹30,000 crore, Sarma noted that the state’s youth will soon find employment opportunities within Assam, eliminating the need to migrate to other states.

“Assam is becoming a crucial hub for semiconductor manufacturing in India. The Prime Minister has recognised Assam’s development as a key centre for semiconductor manufacturing, highlighted by the recent inauguration of the Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test facility in Jagiroad. This will foster technological growth in the Northeast. With India’s speed and scale, the country will emerge as a major force in semiconductor production, creating millions of jobs and boosting Assam’s economy,” Sarma said.
