Electric two-wheeler manufacturer Ather Energy posted a sharp improvement in its financial performance during the June quarter, reporting a 71% year-on-year decline in consolidated net loss as robust demand and higher sales helped strengthen its position in India's rapidly expanding EV market.

The Bengaluru-based company reported a consolidated net loss of ₹51.09 crore for the first quarter, compared with ₹178.23 crore a year earlier. The improved performance came as wholesale dispatches surged 81% year-on-year to 83,173 units, significantly outpacing the broader electric two-wheeler industry's growth and reinforcing Ather's momentum in an increasingly competitive market.

Sales momentum outpaces industry

Ather's wholesale volumes rose from 46,078 units in the year-ago quarter, supported by sustained consumer demand and favourable policy tailwinds. The company affirmed that it has also strengthened its market position in recent months, competing with established players such as TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto and Ola Electric in the fast-growing electric scooter segment.

Industry data shows electric two-wheeler adoption continues to accelerate in India, with retail sales crossing 11.49 lakh units in FY26, reflecting growing consumer acceptance, expanding charging infrastructure and sustained government support for clean mobility.

Total expenses during the quarter increased to ₹1,310.74 crore from ₹851.14 crore a year earlier, reflecting higher production levels and investments to support capacity expansion.

New platform, factory to fuel growth

Commenting on the performance, Ather Energy Co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta said demand continued to exceed supply across the company's portfolio, driven by supportive policies and changing customer preferences.

"We continued to see strong demand across our portfolio, as structural tailwinds from both policy support and shifting customer sentiment translated into a massive upsurge for our products, with demand far outstripping supply," Mehta said.

The company is preparing to unveil the first production scooter based on its all-new EL platform on August 29 during Ather Community Day 2026. Production will commence alongside the scale-up of its new manufacturing facility at AURIC, Maharashtra, which is expected to significantly enhance output.

"This gives us confidence that the market continues to expand... Together, they position us well for the next phase of Ather's growth," Mehta said.

The new platform and expanded manufacturing capacity are expected to strengthen Ather's competitive position as it seeks to gain market share in India's electric two-wheeler market, where incumbents and new-age EV manufacturers continue to intensify their product offerings and capacity expansion plans.
