India’s festive demand has reached a five-year high in 2026, driving growth across consumer durables, automobiles and apparel, according to industry reports cited by BharatPe. Against this backdrop, the fintech company has introduced an agentic artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to help merchants manage rising business requirements in real time.
Integrated into the BharatPe for Business app, the assistant is designed to understand merchant requirements and initiate actions across more than 60 live systems, going beyond conventional chatbots that primarily answer queries. It is available round the clock through voice and chat and has been built using Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
Multilingual AI to handle merchant requests
The assistant supports voice interactions in Hindi, English, Hinglish and supported regional languages, with chat available as an alternative. It uses contextual information, including screen activity, interaction history and previous support tickets, to personalise assistance.
Its capabilities include helping merchants raise and track requests, address complaints and chargebacks, and receive updates on their cases. Depending on their requirements, merchants can also receive suggestions for BharatPe’s financial products and services, including Credit-on-UPI, loans and point-of-sale (POS) solutions.
The conversational interface allows users to interrupt the assistant mid-conversation and select their preferred persona, avatar and voice. The company says the system can initiate actions, provide relevant information and follow up with updates across connected BharatPe systems, reducing the need to navigate interactive voice response menus, wait on hold or seek callbacks.
Merchant network and payments scale
Founded in 2018, BharatPe operates across more than 450 cities, with a registered network of over 1.7 crore merchants. The company processes more than 450 million UPI transactions monthly, with a monthly transaction processed value of ₹12,000 crore.
Its group company, BharatPe Money, has facilitated loan disbursements exceeding $2 billion in partnership with non-banking financial companies. Separately, BharatPe’s POS business processes payments worth more than ₹27,000 crore annually across over 1,25,000 machines.
The company launched what it describes as India’s first UPI-interoperable QR code and first zero-merchant discount rate payment acceptance service in 2018. In 2020, it introduced BharatPe Swipe, a card acceptance terminal.
The agentic AI assistant is accessible through the BharatPe for Business app, bringing merchant support, contextual assistance and task execution into a single interface as festive trading activity intensifies.
